The island of Cozumel off Mexico’s Caribbean coast is off to a very strong start in the cruise sector so far this year.
Cozumel received 1.786 million cruise passenger arrivals in the first half of 2014, according to new data from the Caribbean Tourism Organization.
That represented a 19.4 percent increase over the first six months of 2013, according to CTO data.
In the same period last year, the island welcomed just under 1.5 million cruise passengers.
The island’s total was the largest of any destination in the Caribbean with complete reporting for the first half of 2014, and the largest increase of any destination.
Cozumel’s Puerta Maya cruise port is located on the southwestern end of the island.
