Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe departed the country Wednesday for an official visit to Colombia.
The purpose of Lamothe’s visit was to attend the inauguration ceremony of incoming Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos.
On Thursday, Lamothe met with Colombian media and with Enrique Garcia Rodriguez, president of the Development Bank of Latin America.
Over the last several years, Haiti’s government seems to have been making a concerted push to deepen ties with the Greater Caribbean, with new cooperation with countries like Venezuela, Panama, Mexico and Ecuador, among others.
Santos was re-elected to a second term on June 16.
Lamothe was set to return to Haiti on Thursday.
