NEVIS — This is a small island (only 36 square miles), but it’s big on things to do. Spend your days basking on its golden sands; hiking Mount Nevis; biking its challenging trails; or exploring the diminutive capital of Charlestown. But when the sun goes down, the action really heats up. Here are our picks for five nights of fun on this magical island.
Wednesday
Come Hump Day, all roads lead to Hermitage Plantation’s all-you-can-eat pig roast, where for $55 a head you’ll enjoy a three-course feast that includes fresh-off-the-spit roast pork and goat, and an intoxicatingly delicious rum-soaked bread pudding.
Thursday
Eat your weight at Nisbet Plantation’s weekly beach barbecue, which features (fittingly, since it’s the only beachfront plantation inn in the Caribbean) an oceanfront seafood buffet, a tempting dessert station, and dancing on the sand to a live band. $55
Friday
Kick off the weekend with a little R & R – rum and roti, that is – at Four Seasons Nevis’ beachfront restaurant, Mango. The 101 Rum Bar features – you guessed it – 101 Caribbean rums, and the roti is authentic and amazing.
Saturday
Candlelit dinner a deux in the 300-year-old stone sugar mill at Montpelier Plantation defines romantic Caribbean dining. $95 buys you a five-course tasting menu in the company of other patrons, or reserve the entire mill for a just the two of you (proposal, anyone?) for an extra $500.
Sunday
As the weekend comes to an end, lift your spirits (literally!) at Sunshine’s, the classic Nevisian beach bar on Pinney’s Beach, with a potent Killer Bee (or three) in hand.
