Light 3.6-Magnitude Earthquake Near Dominican Republic

A light 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck Monday evening southeast of the Dominican Republic, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake struck at around 9:16 PM local time at a depth of 91 kilometres.

It occurred around 88 kilometres south of Punta Cana and around 198 kilometres east-southeast of Santo Domingo.

The quake struck close to the seismically active region between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, the latest in a series of moderately-sized quakes in the Caribbean region.

There were no reports of damage or injuries resulting from the quake.
