Grenada has completed construction on a solar energy plant that will power a new reverse osmosis facility on the island of Petite Martinique.

The work was done by local firm Grenada Solar Power.

The osmosis plant is one of two on which the government is working, with the other slated for Carriacou. That plant will also be powered by solar energy, the government said.

The government also said that it would consider refining the salt extracted from the saltwater reverse osmosis plants.

“As the project nears completion, the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs is considering other possible benefits that can be derived from the project,” the government said in a statement.
