Swiss-headquartered hotel brand Kempinski is planning to open a hotel in Havana, Cuba.

The hotel, which will be built by the Gaviota tourism group is slated to open in 2016, the government said, with a total of 200 rooms.

It would be located in the Manzana de Gomez structure, which was the first shopping mall in Cuba.

The announcement of the project is the latest to come under the island’s recently-enacted foreign investment law, which also covers the new Carbonera Club project near Varadero.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Kempinski would be opening another Caribbean hotel, on the island of Dominica.

The Gaviota Group has almost 1,300 rooms in Cuba’s capital.
