11 Great Beaches in Nassau, Bahamas

NASSAU — It’s simple: Nassau, otherwise known as the Bahamian island of New Providence, has some of the region’s most beautiful beaches. They have pure sand, classic Bahamian turquoise water and, most importantly, many of them are almost always empty. That means these aren’t just great beaches in Nassau — you might as well call most of them private beaches. Here are some of the best on the island of New Providence, with an emphasis on the beautiful northwestern coast — all of which can be navigated by driving on West Bay Street. (All photos by CJ)

Cabbage Beach

Perhaps the most famous beach in Nassau and Paradise Island, this Paradise Island beach is as beautiful a stretch of sand as you’ll find anywhere in the Caribbean.

Orange Hill Beach

It’s accessed through a green hedge, and this magnificent stretch of sand is equally famous for the nearby Orange Hill boutique hotel.

Caves Beach

It’s just across West Bay Street from the Caves rock formation, and this beach is almost always quiet, bright and beautiful.

Love Beach

The aptly named Love Beach is most famous for its Nirvana Beach Bar, one of the best beach bars on the island.

Cable Beach

Home to the largest stretch of hotels in Nassau, Cable Beach is on the crowded side, but by Nassau standards that’s still not many people.

Junkanoo Beach

Named for the classic Bahamian musical form, this is an always-hopping beach just outside the heart of downtown Nassau.

Goodman’s Bay Beach

This large patch of sand near Cable Beach is great for larger groups, picnics and lazy Sunday afternoons.

Old West Bay Beach

This beach doesn’t really have a name, which makes it terrific as a sandy hideaway on a quiet stretch of the island’s northwestern coast.

Sandyport Beach

Just past the Sandyport area (home to restaurants like the terrific Poop Deck and assorted residential condos) is a laid-back sliver of sand called Sandyport.

Saunders Beach

Just past the Fish Fry (on Arawak Cay), Saunders Beach is a popular local spot, and there’s always an energy here — almost any time of day.

Go Slow Bay

On a tiny corner just a few minutes away from Cable Beach, Go Slow Bay is a small area of sand that’s a great place to watch the waves.
