Haiti, Dominican Republic Sign Agreement on Tourism Cooperation

Haiti Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin and Dominican Republic Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garica signed a Memorandum of Undersatnding on Thursday covering tourism cooperation.

“This new agreement inaugurates the era of technical cooperation on responsible and sustainable tourism, based on equality and mutual benefit,” Villedrouin said in a statement.

The agreement covers issues like tourism legislation, planning, regulation, training, tourist security and health, air transportation and the environment.

Both parties have agreed as part of the Memorandum to establish a Working Plan to exchange their experience on tourism investment, cultural promotion, quality systems, organization and the operation of tourist services.

In a statement, Villedrouin said her government was committed to “improving the image of Haiti,” and announced the opening of a tourist promotion bureau in the Dominican Republic.

The agreement was signed in Santo Domingo.
