First Dutch Ambassador to CARICOM

The Netherlands has named its first-ever Ambassador to the Caribbean Community.

This week, Ambassador Lucita MoenirAlam presented her credentials to CARICOM Secretary General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque at his office in Guyana.

In a statement, the two sides said the accreditation was a “step forward in the deepening of relations between the Netherlands and CARICOM.”

MoeinrAlam also said she was “eagerly awaiting” CARICOM’s response to applications by Sint Maarten and Curacao for Associate Membership in the regional body.

LaRocque said “Climate Change, the negotiating of the Post 2015 Development Agenda and the issues facing middle income countries” were matters of interest in the context of their bilateral relationshiop.

He said it would be important that the “Kingdom of the Netherlands be sensitised to the realities” of the situation.”

For her part, MoenirAlam said “regional security, sustainable development and good governance” were areas in which relations could be deepened.
