With the continued importance of tourism to the regional economy, more and more governments are looking to ensure the industry is valued locally.

Accordingly, the Discover Dominica Authority recently launched the “Tourism Awareness Month” in Dominica, aiming to increase awareness of the country’s biggest private economic driver.

In a statement, Nikima Royer, head of marketing at the Discover Dominica Authority, said the series of activities planned would “share the knowledge and wisdom of the Tourism Industry, as well as, raise awareness on some of the key issues and concerns affecting the industry.”

This year’s month is being held under the theme “Tourism Is Everybody’s Business, Let’s Play Our Part.”

Some of the events will include a Tourism Youth Congress, the Triskel Cup, highlighting the yachting sector in Portsmouth; a Tourism Open Day featuring training workshops, a Hike Fest and others.

Tourism Awareness Month will conclude with the island’s marquee Jazz ‘N Creole festival on June 8.
