Grenada says it is targeting investments in green energy, following the signing of an expression of interest with Sir Richard Branson’s Carbon War Room.

Under the arrangements, the Carbon War Room would help Grenada in courting investors and other organizations to finalize a roadmap for “action and investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency,” according to a government statement.

Grenada Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell signed the expression of interest with the Carbon War Room at the National Press Club in Washington on Friday.

He said Grenada was “seeking solutions to the high electricity prices faced by Grenadians which was due, in part, to the high cost of imported diesel fuel.”

He also said that Grenada “could be a leader in this area.”

The roadmap would propose solutions for improving the country’s regulatory environment, energy efficiency in government buildings and infrastructure, affordable green energy services for major users in the private sector and investment in geothermal energy, among others.
