Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla has appointed Colonel Jose Caldero Lopez as the island’s new Superintendent of Police.

Caldero has almost four decades of experience; most recently, he served as executive advisor of security for the mayor of the autonomous municipality of Caguas.

Padilla said the new appointment “returns to the police with the task of giving continuity and course to the anti-crime plan we have promoted from the first day of our administration.”

Caldero still needs to be confirmed by Puerto Rico’s Senate.

For now, Colonel Juan Rodriguez will remain in the post of Interim Superintendent.
