New Chocolate Factory Opens in Grenada

Grenada has a new chocolate factory.

The Diamond Chocolate Factory has officially opened in the area of St Mark’s following an inauguration ceremony last week that included Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell.

The Prime Minister said the new factory was “evidence that when we change the way we practice agriculture, and invest in value-added products, agriculture can indeed be a more viable and attractive occupation for young people.”

Grenada currently produces some of the most acclaimed chocolate in the world, led by the now-famous Grenada Chocolate Company, which was founded in 1999.

Mitchell said that the project had been “long in the making,” calling it a sign that “we are changing the way we do agriculture by creating more avenues of revenue for our farmers.”

The factory is the result of a partnership between LA Burdick Chocolate, the Grenada Cocoa Association, USAID and the government of Grenada.
