Organization of American States Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza and Association of Caribbean States Secretary General Alfonso Munera Cavadia held talks Monday in Washington.

The discussion focused on “how to build a more active and dynamic partnership between the OAS and the ACS, based on the programs and initiatives in which both organizations have the potential to work more effectively,” according to a statement from the OAS.

The talks, which were held at the OAS’ headquarters in Washington, also examined ways to expand cooperation between the two regional blocs, including in areas like tourism security, culture and education.

The sides agreed to hold an inter-institutional meeting with experts from both regional organizations to “establish lines of action for such cooperation,” the OAS said.

The Association of Caribbean States will be holding its next Summit of Heads of State and/or Government on April 30 in Mexico.
