The government of Dominica has signed a $9.5 million financing agreement with the European Commission.

The agreement falls under the Natural Disasters Remedial and Mitigation Measures Infrastructure, according to the government.

That agreement is funding a road rehabilitation project in the southeastern part of Dominica.

In a statement, Dominica’s government said the project had two major objectives: to improve resilience to extreme weather events on the road between Bois-Diable and White River and to improve delivery of transport between the two areas.

Dominica’s Ministry of Public Works, Energy and Ports is carrying out the project, which is part of a wider effort to “mitigate the effects of tropical weather phenomena,” the government said.

Funding for the project is coming through the 10th European Development Fund.
