11 Rum Cocktails For St Patrick’s Day

Whether you’re in Dublin or Dominica, St Patrick’s Day is always a lot of fun. And since it will be effectively celebrated this weekend, we thought we’d offer some help, with a list of 11 great cocktails perfect for a St Patrick’s Day celebration. Almost all of them are, naturally, green in colour, with one notable exception (you’ll see why). Cheers!

 

Evil Green Eyes — Don Q — Puerto Rico

1 oz Don Q Limon
1 oz Don Q Mojito
1/2 oz Melon Liqueur
1/2 oz Sour Mix
Club Soda

Add Don Q Limón, Don Q Mojito, melon liqueur, sour mix, and club soda to a shaker. Shake gently, strain, and serve in a highball glass.

Ti’ Punch Contemporain — Rhum Clement — Martinique

1 half lime cut into wedges
2 cl squeezed lime juice
3 cl fresh sugar cane syrup
1 teaspoon brown sugar
6 cl de Rhum Clément Première Canne

Coconut Mojito — Cruzan Rum — St Croix

2 part Cruzan Aged Light Rum
1 part Cruzan Coconut
8-10 Mint Leaves
2 lime wedges
1 tspn sugar
Coconut Soda (or Coconut Water, both widely available these days)
Garnish: Mint Sprigs wrapped in Lime twist.

Muddle Mint, Lime & sugar, top with Rums & ice. Shake 2 times to mix. Add Coconut Soda to top.

Daiquiri Rebel — Rhum Barbancourt — Haiti

1 pinch of sugar
1.5 cl lemon juice
1.5 cl of crème de menthe
4.5 cl White Rum Barbancourt
12 cl of crushed ice

In a shaker, pour the sugar and lemon juice, then stir to dissolve the sugar. Add the creme de menthe, the white rhum and ice mix for 15 seconds. Finally, garnish with a slice of lemon. Serve in a martini glass.



Antharium – Rhum Damoiseau – Guadeloupe
3 cl de Rhum blanc Damoiseau 40°
2 cl de Liqueur de coco
1 cl de liqueur de curaçao bleu

Cucumber Mojito — 10 Cane Rum — Trinidad

1.5 oz 10 Cane Rum
1 oz Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
1 oz Simple Syrup
8-10 Mint Leaves
4 Pieces of Peeled Cucumber
Club Soda
Slice of Cucumber

Muddle simple syrup, mint leaves, and cucumber in the bottom of a tall glass.
Fill with cracked ice. Add 10 Cane and lime juice. Stir gently and top off with soda.
Garnish with a slice of cucumber.



Speak Low — Bacardi — Puerto Rico

This recipe was created by Shingo Gokan of the Angel’s Share bar in New York and won the second Bacardi Global Legacy Cocktail Competition in 2012. The drink is named after a famous jazz song by Kurt Weill, hearkening back to Prohibition-era America.

2 parts BACARDÍ 8 Años rum
½ part Pedro Ximenez Sherry
1 tsp Matcha green tea powder

Add a teaspoon of Matcha green tea powder into a Japanese mixing bowl, or an alternative mixing bowl and pour in the Bacardi 8 Años rum and Pedro Ximenez sherry. Whisk until thoroughly combined (or use a cocktail shaker with the spring from a hawthorne shaker – no ice). Fine strain the mix into a short glass filled with a large chunk of ice. Stir and serve.



Jamaican Me Drunk — Appleton Estate — Jamaica

2 oz Appleton Estate Reserve
2 bar spoon home made ginger jam
½ oz bar spoon home made all spice jam
¾ oz lime juice
¾ oz soursop puree
3 dashes West India orange bitters
Red Stripe garnish: dehydrated lime and orange wheels with sweet curry

Mix ingredients and enjoy. Serve in a highball glass. (Recipe: Gabriel Orta, Miami)

Kiwi Caipirinha — Novo Fogo Cachaca — Brazil

1.5 oz Novo Fogo Silver Cachaça
1/2 lime
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 cup kiwi fruit

Remove the white pith from the lime and discard it. Cut the remaining lime in slices; toss them into the glass. Muddle them with sugar in the glass. Add kiwi and muddle again. Fill the glass with ice. Add cachaça and pour everything into a shaker. Give it a go; pour everything (including the ice) back into the same glass. Insert a small spoon to help lap up the fruit. Serve in a rocks glass.

Classic Daiquiri – Ron Barcelo — Dominican Republic

50 ml Ron Barcelo Dorado
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
2 tablespoons of sugar syrup (two parts sugar / 1 part Water)

Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with abundant ice cubes; shake vigorously until that Shaker cools off. Strain into a glass of Martini or a cocktail; Garnish with a slice of lemon.


Papa’s Irish Friend — Caribbean/Panama/USA

1 oz each of half/half and coffee liquor (e.g. Kahlua)
1 oz Papa’s Pilar Dark Rum
1/2 pint of Guinness

Pour into bottom of a pint glass. Pour in half pint of Guinness
