Haiti Carnival 2014 in 7 Photos

If carnival is an art, Haiti is one of the great masters. In the last few years, the annual fete has been held in a different city each year, and this year’s edition came to Gonaives in northern Haiti. Take our Caribbean Carnival tour through the sights of Haiti’s City of Independence.

Gonaives, which has a population of more than 300,000, is one of the cradles of Haitian history, the birthplace of its independence.

This year’s fete lived up to Gonaives’ esteem, with a cornucopia of sights, sounds and flavours at Haiti’s national carnival.

This week’s carnival came a week after the annual fete in Jacmel, Haiti’s cultural capital.

This year’s carnival made sure to honour the rich history of Haiti.

While Trinidad is the carnival capital of the southern Caribbean, Haiti is unquestionably the carnival capital of the northern Caribbean.

Haiti’s carnival party is an all-day, all-night affair.

See you in Haiti!
