The Caribbean tourism industry is only getting more competitive — so it’s no surprise that Antigua is looking to promote its tourism sector with help from one of the greatest competitors in history.

Antiguan-born West Indies cricket legend Sir Viv Richards is headlining the country’s newest tourism video, putting a cricketing spin on the traditional destination marketing commercial.

Richards is considered to be one of the greatest cricketers in history; in the year 2000, he was name one of the top five cricketers of the 20th century.

In a statement, the government said that tourism officials thought it was an “opportune time to promote the islands’ sports tourism product,” ahead of the upcoming England versus West Indies one-day internationals at the stadium named after Richards, which begin later this month.

The new video begins with Richards batting in his eponymous stadium; the commercial then features cricket balls being hit around the island, each landing in a different aspect of the country’s tourism sector, concluding with a golf course.

“Maybe in my next life, I’ll become a golfer,” Richards says with a smile.
