Haiti’s cultural capital, Jacmel, now has a new addition — a sporting complex.

The new “Sporting Complex Jacmel” was inaugurated by Haiti President Michel Martelly on Friday.

Martelly was joined by Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, Senator Wencesclass Lambert and Venezuela’s Ambassador in Haiti, Pedro Antonio Canino Gonzalez, to mark the complex’s opening.

The sporting complex in Jacmel includes a football (soccer) field, a sports ground that can be used for tennis, basketball or volleyball, eight locker rooms, two 60,000-gallon water tanks and a lighting system, according to the government.

Haiti also announced the inauguration of several tourism infrastructure projects.

The government said it had been investing more than $40 million on infrastructure and other projects in the southeastern portion of the country.
