If Haiti wants to become an emerging economy by 2030, it will need to focus on education, particularly in areas like math and science.
That’s the driving force behind the Haitian Bioscience Initiative, which looks to train young Haitians in “basic scientific laboratory techniques.”
The initiative, which is a partnership between educators, academics and professionals, is working to teach techniques like environmental monitoring, wet chemistry, microbiological testing and molecular biology.
The ultimate goal is to establish a “modern bioscience laboratory facility” in Haiti, which would help educate the country’s youth in the life sciences.
Right now, the group says it is looking for funding for a series of five-day long pilot bioscience educational experiences in Haiti.
On that front, the group is looking to help secure funding through KIND Healthy Snacks’ Do the Kind Thing projects, which is awarding $10,000 to specific projects it deems to be “spreading kindness in and around” the world.
“Since we are in the pilot phase of the project, receiving $10K would help support scholarships for the participants; cover the costs of some materials, reagents and equipment,” the group said. “This money would go a long way towards making the Haitian Bioscience Initiative a reality in Haiti.”
