Another earthquake has caused shaking in Cuba and the Florida Keys, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The 4.3-magnitude quake occurred at around 10:19 PM local time, with an epicentre around 26 kilometres north-northeast of Marti Cuba, and about 159 kilometres east of Havana.

While earthquake are relatively rare in this particular area of the region, this quake came less than a month after a 5.1-magnitude quake occurred in almost the same area north of Cuba.

That quake also caused rattling in Cuba and the Florida Keys, along with portions of mainland Florida.

Initial reports of weak shaking came from the area of Marathon in the Florida Keys.

The Caribbean is a seismically active region, although most activity tends to be concentrated near Puerto Rico and, further south, near Trinidad.

The quake occurred at a depth of 12 kilometres, according to the USGS.

While there were no reports of damage or injuries, the quake was felt as far north as Marco Island, Fla.
