India-based firm Infosys could soon open an office in Puerto Rico, according to Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla.

The Governor said the firm, which specializes in information technology and consulting work, would be bringing in an investment of more than $9 million over two years.

The investment would create 300 jobs, he said.

“Infosys is a company which global reach that is coming to Puerto Rico because it knows that our country is an excellent place to do business and prosper,” he said. “A country with the same protection for US intellectual property, but its own tax system.”

Padilla Garcia said Infosys would be establishing its operations in Aguadilla, where it would provide US customer service, order management consulting and administrative processes for the defence and aerospace sectors.

According to the Governor, Infosys had signed an agreement with the Industrial Development Company for a series of incentives in exchange for job creation.

Garcia Padilla said another IT company, Claim Software Development, had announced it would open its Latin American export hub on the island, a move that he said could create 75 jobs.
