Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina departed the country for Honduras on Sunday to witness the installation of new President Juan Orlando Hernandez Alvarado.

Medina was joined by a six-member delegation including Minister of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo, Administrator of the Presidency, Jose Ramon Peralta, Interior and Police Minister Jose Ramon Fadul and Economy Minister Temistocles Montas, Major General Adam Caceres Silvestre and staff assistant to the President Carlos Perez Wall.

The transfer of power ceremony will take place on Monday morning at the Tiburcio Carias Andino stadium in Honduras’ capital, Tegucigalpa.

Medina will then head directly from Honduras to Cuba for the upcoming Second Summit of Heads of State and/or Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, which will take place in Havana starting on Tuesday.

The Dominican Republic has been increasing its ties with Central America in recent years, and currently holds the rotating chairmanship of SICA, the Central American Integration System.
