Dominica has received a shipment of humanitarian aid from the government of Morocco.

The North African country delivered a supply of basic food items medication and blankets to Dominica, following the devastating storms in the Eastern Caribbean in late December.

In a statement, Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said he “welcomed the assistance” from Morocco, which has been increasing its economic engagement with the Caribbean region, including Dominica, where it is building a hotel project.

Dominica, along with St Vincent and St Lucia, experienced significant infrastructural damage due to the storm system, which affected roads, ravines and drains.

The cost of rehabilitation of infrastructure on the island was estimated at around EC $45 million.

Terms of the aid from Morocco were not disclosed.
