The new Simpson Bay Causeway has officially opened in St Maarten, the government announced.
The causeway, which spans 760 metres with two lanes of traffic, connects St Maarten’s airport with the east bank of the Simpson Bay Lagoon.
It includes protected sidewalks on each side, a bicycle track and a swing bridge at its centre.
Officials said the causeway should improve accessibility to Simpson Bay, the Princess Juliana International Airport, Cole Bay and Marigot.
It can be entered through two roundabouts, with one at the Airport Road near the end of the runway and the other on Union Road.
Its swing bridge can accommodate passing boats and large yachts through two navigating channels.
