The United Kingdom will be providing around $370,370 USD in emergency support for humanitarian efforts in St Vincent and the Grenadines and St Lucia, according to the British High Commission Bridgetown.
The suport will include essential drugs and medical supplies, along with water and sanitation equipment for the islands, which were hit hard by a serious trough system last week.
The support will be delivered by the Pan American Health Organization.
“To have suffered the loss of life and the destruction of homes has made this Christmas period a wretched time for so many, especially the young and vulnerable,” said Alan Duncan, UK Minister of State for International Development, who is visiting the region. “The British government is glad to offer support to those in need in both St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.”
Duncan is meeting with leaders in both countries during his trip.
The High Commission said the support would help ensure access to clean water and sanitation, reestablish health services and implement disease surveillance.
