Caribbean Style: The Jaguar F-Type

THE FAR reaches of New Providence. The northern coast of Trinidad. The salt flats of Bonaire. The Caribbean is full of spectacular roads, and our new Caribbean Style section will be taking you for drives in cars worthy of the views.

We recently took a spin in the newly-launched Jaguar F-Type convertible, and the results were staggering.

We tried the F-Type S model, which has a 380hp, supercharged V6 that does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds (and a top speed of 171 mph, although there aren’t many places you’ll be able to test that out in the Caribbean).

It’s paired to a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic that is best enjoyed using the manual paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The new cat is a marked departure from more conservative Jags of recent memory, a brash, hard-nosed, roaring drop-top with a soundtrack that rivals any car on the road (amplified via a simple button on the centre console).

It’s a car that is elegant without being pretentious, luxurious without being stuck-up.

Jags have always engendered passion in Caribbean drivers, and this car is sure to do the same.

It’s the perfect car for an afternoon drive in the Caribbean.
