Dominica Mourns Former President

Dominica is mourning the loss of former President Vernon Shaw.

Shaw, who was Dominica’s fifth President, passed away early Monday morning.

He had served in a number of posts in the government, including Treasury and Customs, the Post Office, Central Housing and Planning and the Ministry of Trade and Production.

He was appointed Secretary to the Cabinet in 1977, later serving as Ambassador at Large and Inspector of Missions in 1978.

He was sworn in as Dominica’s Head of State in 1998.
