Jamaica’s government is adding four new Community Access Points in Kingston and St James, according to Minister of State in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining Julian Robinson.

The CAPs are essentially “Internet cafes,” Robinson said, with a group of computers with Internet access. They are managed and funded by the Universal Service Fund.

The new CAPs are part of 150 that have been rolled out across Jamaica, Robinson said.

Jamaica is also reportedly working to develop an island-wide broadband Internet network, also financed by the USF.

The CAPs are either free or provided “at a minimal cost,” according to the government.
