Trinidad’s Justice Geoffrey Andrew Henderson has been appointed as a judge of the International Criminal Court.
Henderson was named in elections during the 12th session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the ICC.
Henderson received votes of 98 of the 99 states present and voting, with one abstention.
In a statement, Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar congratulated Henderson on his election, noting that his candidacy was endorsed by CARICOM.
Henderson is a graduate of the University of the West Indies Law Faculty and the Sir Hugh Wooding Law School.
Henderson comes to the court following the departure of fellow Trinidad and Tobago native Sir Anthony Carmona, who resigned from the ICC after begin named as Trinidad’s President earlier this eyar.
Henderson will serve the remainder of Carmona’s term, which ends on March 10, 2021.
