Jamaica and Singapore have signed an open skies agreement, the two governments announced Tuesday.
The agreement was signed on Monday by Jamaican Minister Dr Morais Guy and Singapore Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew in London.
Under the agreement, selected airlines can fly between the two countries (and via third countries) without limitations on the frequency of flights, capacity or type of aircraft.
“The agreement represents a sustained and coordinated expansion in Jamaica’s transportation sector, particularly as it relates to aviation, which will translate into increased potential for transportation, commerce and tourism between the two countries,” Guy said in a statement.
The deal was signed during the 28th International Maritime Organization Assembly in London, where Guy is leading a delegation looking to bolster Jamaica’s bid to be re-elected to the IMO Council for two years.
“The signing of the OSA reflects the warm bilateral ties between Singapore and Jamaica, and underscores both countries’ commitment to establish a fully liberal air services framework which allows our carriers to react quickly to market demand when opportunities arise,” Yew said.
