Air Europa will be launching service from Madrid to San Juan, Puerto Rico beginning in May, Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla announced.

The service will include two weekly flights out of San Juan on an Airbus A330 with capacity for 299 passengers.

Air Europa will also offer connections to cities like London, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris, Milan, Rome and Moscow.

Spain-based Air Europa was founded in 1986; it has a fleet of 44 aircraft and 4,000 employees.

The government said the new flights could have a $38 million impact on the Puerto Rican economy during the first year of the service, with as many as 15,000 European tourists.

“On behalf of the government and people of Puerto Rico, it pleases me greatly to welcome Air Europa and hope there are many years of growth in this new connection to Spain,” Garcia said.
