10 Great Marinas from Turks and Caicos to the US Virgin Islands

You may remember we started our odyssey in the Bahamas, imagining a two-year trip through the Caribbean on a yacht with 3 million dollars to burn.  It’s quite a dilemma and some people might never come back.  We started in the Bahamas and cruised right down the 700 island chain. Our next stop is in Turks and Caicos then to the north coast of the Dominican Republic, over to Puerto Rico and on to the Virgin Islands. It’s not far but then we are not in a hurry!   Here are 10 marinas, anchorages, gunk holes and hideouts along the way…

Turtle Cove — Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands

In the beginning, there was Turtle Cove. This marina hearkens back to the early days of the TCI.

Luperon — Dominican Republic

Ok, so there’s no sizable marina here. But this is a terrific place for an anchorage, a laid-back enclave in the area of Puerto Plata.

Puerto Bahia — Dominican Republic

The perfect place to stop in Samana, Puerto Bahia is a full-service marina that also has its own hotel.

Ocean World — Dominican Republic

A combination adventure park, marina, casino and restaurant, you’ll have a full schedule with a stop here.

Marina at Cap Cana — Dominican Republic

The height of Caribbean luxury, you’ll see some boats here you won’t see anywhere else in the region.

Marina at Casa de Campo

Another elegant marina stop, this is a refined destination for anyone sailing the coast of the Dominican Republic.

San Juan Bay Marina — Puerto Rico

Heading to Puerto Rico, you can stop in the heart of San Juan at the San Juan Bay Marina.

Puerto del Rey — Fajardo, Puerto Rico

This marina is actually about to start a major expansion project — and it’s already the largest marina in the Caribbean.

Sun Bay, Vieques

Another great anchorage choice, you can enjoy the beautiful vistas of Vieques in the so-called “Spanish Virgin Islands.”

American Yacht Harbor St Thomas

We close this leg of the journey with a stop in the Red Hook area of St Thomas at the well-known American Yacht Harbor. And don’t worry — there are a lot more marinas to come as we head through the Virgin Islands!
