Three new justices have been appointed to the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal, Governor Helen Kilpatrick announced this month.
The new justices include Sir Bernard Rix, Sir George Newman and John Martin, QC.
The appointments follow a recruiting process undertaken by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission.
A group of five experts interviewed the applicants.
“Each of these new Justices of Appeal has an impressive and distinguished legal career which will complement the experience of our present Court of Appeal” Governor Kilpatrick said in a statement. “I look forward to welcoming them to the Cayman Islands over the next year when each of them will sit for the first time.”
Sir Bernard Rix is a retired Lord Justice of Appeal of England and Wales; Sir George Newman experience includes two years as a Justice of the Bahamian Court of Appeal.
Martin has served as a judge of the Courts of Appeal of Jersey and Guernsey since 2007.
Sir Bernard Rix began serving on Nov. 1; Newman will begin his appointment on July 1, 2014, while Martin will begin work March 1, 2014.
The Court of Appeal, led by President Sir John Chadwick, now has eight members.
