Former Prime Minister Andrew Holness is still the leader of the Jamaica Labour Party.

That was the result following an election Sunday that saw Holness win the majority of support of JLP members and defeat former Finance Minister Audley Shaw after weeks of heated campaigning.

“Thank you to all the Delegates who came out today,” Holness wrote on his Facebook page. “The real work begins now. Let us join together to build a great JLP. We are all Labourites.”

Holness won the election with more than 2,700 votes to just over 2,000 for Shaw, meaning he remains the head of Jamaica’s Opposition in Parliament.

Shaw congratulated Holness on social media.

“Today was a great day for our democracy,” he said.
