The Turks and Caicos Islands intercepted a sloop carrying 120 migrants from Haiti early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The vessel was intercepted by TCI’s Police Marine Branch after detection by the Coastal Radar Station.

The government said the sloop was towed into Providenciales, where authorities confirmed that 120 people — 106 men and 14 women, were on board.

Another vessel is also currently being towed after being spotted around 9AM this morning. The government said further details were coming.

The Turks and Caicos has had significant levels of illegal migration from Haiti in recent years;

Earlier this month, the TCI intercepted a sloop containing 17 migrants from Haiti.
