Puerto Rico’s Luis Muñoz Marin Airport International Airport is expanding, Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla announced.

A new project by Brazil-based International Meal Company will build a new General Aviation Terminal, a new hangar for the company’s operations and new areas for the sale of food.

The hangar will be used for charter flights and private jets, according to John Comulada Rivera general manager of IMC Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico entered into a deal with Aerostar to privatize the airport’s operations last year. https://www.caribjournal.com2012/07/19/aerostar-wins-bid-to-operate-puerto-ricos-luis-munoz-marin-airport/

“We are showing that investors can rely on Puerto Rico and its competitive advantages,” Padilla said, pointing to the Aerostar deal.

IMC is also planning to open three restaurants outside of the airport, with an investment of $4.2 million, along with sevearl at the airport’s Terminal C at a cost of $1.8 million.

The total investment by IMC is projected to be $16 million, with more than 280 direct jobs in the pipeline, Padilla said.
