British Virgin Islands Premier Dr Orlando Smith will soon embark on a trip to Brazil, he said in an address last week.

The purpose of the trip is to “further assert the BVI’s presence in the Brazilian market,” chiefly in the tourism sector.

Smith said he had already charged the BVI Tourist Board with finding “strategic ways of increasing annual stay-over arrivals by 10 percent,” as part of a diversification of source markets for the territory.

Smith will be joined on the visit by Russell Harrigan, chairman of the Tourist Board and marketing consultant Nerdin St Rose, the latter most recently of the St Lucia Tourist Board.

“I am looking forward to this important trip to set the stage in welcoming South Americans to these Virgin Islands,” he said.
