If you love the water like we do, then kayaking in the Caribbean Sea is a joy. There are some places that are a bit extra special for a paddle, from the glowing waters of Vieques to the rivers of Dominica. Here are seven of our favourite spots.
Andros — Bahamas
It’s one of the least-populated islands of the Bahamas. It’s also the largest. Andros is a wonderful place to kayak, particularly the area of Fresh Creek.
Bonaire Mangrove Center
This is a great option for kayaking and snorkeling. Navigate the waters of Lac Bay as you maneuver through mangrove branches and then peer at upside-down jellyfish.
Cabarete — Dominican Republic
You may think of the bohemian cafes or the surfing, but Cabarete is actually a great place to kayak. Try a tour with Kayak River Adventures.
The Exumas — Bahamas
The pure-turquoise waters of the Exumas in the Bahamas are a kayaker’s paradise.
El Yunque — Puerto Rico
Far from the streets of Old San Juan, the El Yunque National Forest is a natural wonder of the region. It’s full of untouched rivers to explore.
Bio Bay — Vieques, Puerto Rico
The bioluminescent Mosquito Bay glows at night — so why not take out a clear boat to paddle around? Ok — it’s technically a canoe. But we can’t do a whole list about canoeing — or can we? (Try Vieques Adventures)
Dominica
The island of Dominica has 365 rivers — you do the math.
