The governments of Haiti and Venezuela are planning to partner on a hotel and villa project on the island of Ile a Vache.

The news was revealed by Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe during a presentation on “Destination Ile a Vache” at the Best Western Hotel in Petion-Ville last week.

Haiti has also begun construction on the airport project on the island of Ile a Vache, one of several already underway on the island, which Haiti’s government sees as a major potential tourism destination.

Other projects that have already launched include new infrastructure projects and a new community centre.

The Venezuela-Haiti project, announced by Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, will see the construction of a hotel and residential villas in the Anse-du-Four area on Abaka Bay.

Venezuela has been supporting a number of infrastructure projects in Haiti, including the construction of the new airport in Cap-Haitien, which was recently renamed for the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Several American companies are also interested in developing tourism projects on the island including Blue Marlin and US firm Holmes International Development, the Ministry of Tourism said.

Haiti’s government said two accounting firms, local firm Merove-Pierre and international accounting firm PriceWaterHouseCoopers, have been tapped to perform audits on the proposals.
