7 Great Caribbean Restaurants in Miami

What’s the capital of the Caribbean? Is it Port of Spain? Is it Kingston? For many, the answer has long been Miami. Miami is a hub of Caribbean culture, thought and food, meaning you can find the world of the Caribbean right in South Florida. South Florida’s largest city is home to dozens of authentic Caribbean restaurants, and we’ve put together a list of our favourites here. Do you have a favourite Caribbean eatery in Miami? Tell us below in the comments section.

LC’s Roti Shop

A little slice of Trinidad in Miami, LC’s serves top-notch roti (including conch, shrimp, goat, duck, beef and veggie, among others), along with pholourie and doubles. Grab a Carib, close you’re eyes, and you’ll be transported to St James.

Clive’s Cafe

Curry goat, jerk chicken, sorrel, ting, it’s all here in the heart of the Little Haiti neighbourhood.

Patty Place

Part of a large Caribbean-oriented shopping complex that also includes LC’s, Patty Place is a small, nondescript storefront that serves very, very good Jamaican patties.

Miami, FL

Tap Tap

The most famous Haitian restaurant in the area, this Miami Beach eatery is known for a lot of dishes, but we’d recommend the pork griyo.

Miami Beach, FL

Chef Creole

Chef Wilkinson Sejour, who was born in the Bahamas to Haitian parents, runs this Little Haiti outpost that specializes in fresh, delicious seafood. There are actually three locations of Chef Creole in the area — part of a growing seafood empire.

Miami, FL

Ortanique on the Mile

Chef Cindy Hutson calls it “Cuisine of the Sun,” and this Coral Gables restaurant puts a high-end spin on traditional Caribbean flavours, from West Indian curried fresh jumbo lump carb cakes to jerk chicken penne pasta. (There’s also an Ortanique in Grand Cayman).

278 Miracle Mile
Coral Gables, FL
(305) 446-7710

Jimmy’z Kitchen

This Wynwood restaurant by Chef Jimmy Carey, who grew up in Puerto Rico, serves a mix of continental and Caribbean dishes, but its raison d’etre is pure, unadulterated Puerto Rican mofongo.
