Trinidadian scholar Ravindra Ramrattan was among those killed in the terrorist attack at a shopping mall in Nairobi on Sunday.

Ramrattan, a President’s Medal winner at Presentation College in Chaguanas, Trinidad, had been working as a research analyst with the World Bank in Kenya.

In a statement, Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar offered her condolences.

“it is with deep sadness that I offer condolences to the family of this bright son from Trinidad and Tobago. Having achieved the President’s Medal, Ravindra went abroad and completed his studies, and took up a major assignment in Africa,” Persad-Bissessar said.

The attack, committed by the al-Shabab Islamist terrorist group killed almost 70 people, according to the most recent count.

“Over the years, we have heard where our nationals, serving in various capacities, were violently killed,” the Prime Minister said. “Here was a young man, approaching 30 years old, with a bright future, cut down by terrorism. May he rest in peace.”
