Six Great Places to Eat in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo made our list of the top 10 cities for food in the Caribbean, and any visit to the Dominican Republic’s capital will make it abundantly clear why. Here’s a list of six terrific places to chow down in the oldest European city in the Americas.

La Briciola

This open-air restaurant housed in a 16th century complex primarily serves Italian-accented food. It’s best at night.

Mitre Restaurant & Wine Bar

This ultra-modern eatery features cuisine from all over the world: foie gras, mozzarella di bufala, oriental duck salad… and more. The exceptionally broad menu means you’ll simply have to choose based on mood — but you won’t run out of choices.

Pat’e Palo European Brasserie

This eatery is located in what is said to be the home of the first tavern in the New World. Today, it’s an avant-garde eatery that even has its own “Rum Experience” menu — pairing fine rums and fine foods. (That’s our kind of menu).

Pura Tasca

Set in the Colonial Zone, Pura Tasca is a tapas-style Spanish restaurant. Have some sangria, sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Meson D’Bari

Another great choice in the Colonial Zone, Meson D’Bari specializes in delicious comida Criolla.

Pasteleria La Cuchara de Madera

Okay, so this is actually more of a bakery than a restaurant, but it won’t disappoint. And there’s nothing wrong with adding some sweets to your trip.
