Caribbean Hotel Occupancy Rebounds With Strong August

Caribbean hotel occupancy rebounded in August, following two straight months of decline, according to a new report from STR.

The region’s hotels saw a 2.3 percent increase in occupancy compared to August 2012, with total occupancy of 66.5 percent.

It was part of an across-the-board improvement last month; average daily rate rose 4.2 percent to $160.82, while RevPAR increased by 6.6 percent to $106.91.

For the year, Caribbean hotel occupancy is up 2.23 percent compared to the January-August period of 2012.

STR’s data covered 1,878 hotel properties and 222,418 hotel rooms in the Caribbean region, which includes Bermuda.
