SOME ARE spectacles, others sanctuaries. Ultimately, the quality of a great pool depends on the occasion. Looking to relax? Looking to take in the views? The Caribbean has more great pools than we can count, but these are our 10 favourites for 2013. What are yours? Tell us in the comments section.
Hotel Le Toiny — St Barth
St Barth has made the infinity pool an art form; you might be fooled into thinking this one really does go on forever.
The Somerset on Grace Bay — Providenciales, Turks and Caicos
All of this pool’s tiles are made from LEED-certified recycled glass tiles that absorb sunlight during the daytime. At night, the tiles emit a soft glow. The Caribbean’s greenest pool?
Atlantis Resort — Paradise Island, Bahamas
Atlantis has 11 pools, so it’s hard to really choose one — but we rather like the Grotto Pool. Of course, you really can’t go wrong with any of them.
Scrub Island Resort & Spa — British Virgin Islands
This is really two pools in one — and they’re really about one thing — those views.
Hyatt Regency Trinidad
It’s hard to find a rooftop pool in the Caribbean, and this one just might be the best. Simply incredible vistas – and you can even see Venezuela on a clear day.
One & Only Ocean Club — Paradise Island, Bahamas
This silent, tranquil pool is one of the most relaxing places in the Caribbean. And the gardens leading up to the 12th-century Augustinian cloister mean you get to swim next to a work of art.
Grand Lucayan — Grand Bahama
The infinity pool at the Grand Lucayan is really a thing of beauty.
Four Seasons Resort Nevis
The Four Seasons has three pools, and they’re all infinity pools. We like the Reflection Pool, which is aimed at adults and is tremendously relaxing.
Jade Mountain — St Lucia
Ok, this is not so much one great pool as 24. That’s because Jade Mountain has 24 “infinity pool sanctuaries,” and each unit has its own infinity pool.
Amanyara — Providenciales, Turks and Caicos
It doesn’t get much better than this.
