The Dominican Republic’s Puerto Plata is set to host its Discover Puerto Plata Marketplace next month.

The conference, which will take place from Oct. 16 to Oct. 18, will be hosted at the BeLive Grand Marien resort in Costa Dorada.

Organizers say professionals from 20 countries are expected to attend, with 49 stands promoting goods and services available in the region, which is located on the northern coast of the country.

“Relaunching” Puerto Plata’s tourism sector has been a major stated initiative for the government.

Puerto Plata recently remodeled and expanded its Gregorio Luperon International Airport, and it is set to inaugurate almost 1,500 new hotel rooms in the near future.

The area saw higher growth in the first half of 2013 than other destinations in the Dominican Republic, according to the country’s Ministry of Tourism.
