Six Great Places to Eat in Tortola

The largest British Virgin Island, Tortola, is known for many things: beautiful beaches, spectacular yachts and the greenest of mountains. What you may not know is that the cuisine is very, very good as well. One of the Caribbean’s centres of laid-back luxury, Tortola offers foodies the whole spectrum, from fine dining to casual pub fare — and sometimes both in the same place. Here are six great choices to try the next time you’re there.

The Dove

Above: Chef Travis Phillips

It’s been more than a decade since this charming restaurant opened in Road Town. And today, under Chef Travis Phillips, is as good as ever, featuring largely French-style cuisine .(The wine list alone is reason enough to go).

Brandywine Estate Restaurant

This mostly Italian eatery, located on the Brandywine Estate on the southern side of Tortola, is about two things: delicious food and breathtaking views.

The Sugar Mill

This restaurant at the Sugar Mill Hotel is built within a nearly 400-year-old sugar mill. The seafood is the main draw, featuring a variety of flavours including French, Asian and Caribbean.

Cooper Island Beach Club

The views don’t get much better than at the Cooper Island Beach Club, set right on the sea, a short boat ride off the coast of Tortola. Like much of the BVI, it features a wonderful juxtaposition of laid-back comfort food like roti (and drinks like the Painkiller) and sophisticated fare like certified Angus steaks.

Red Rock Restaurant & Bar

A simple but scrumptious menu accompanies this eatery in East End at the Penn’s Landing Marina. You’ll find a little bit of everything; gyoza, baked brie, pizza…

Pusser’s Landing Restaurant

One of several Pusser’s outposts in Tortola, this restaurant at Soper’s Hole is a great place to beat the heat and have a tasty sandwich and a rum (or a beer).
