The British Virgin Islands has formed a committee on proposed development in the Gun Creek area of Virgin Gorda.

British Virgin Islands Premier Dr Orlando Smith said the committee had already held its first meeting on wednesday, featuring a group of members of the public and private sectors and local land and business owners in the Gun Creek area.

“The group sat down and brainstormed several ideas for the area,” Smith said. “They discussed options and solutions for existing cargo, garbage and parking concerns in the area. They also brainstormed ideas for potential businesses and services in the area, as well as how government can support the development of those businesses. That is what we want.”

Smith said he saw the development of Gun Creek as a “catalyst to improve the destination’s competitive edge.”

“As such, we have been finding effective ways to further stimulate the economy of Virgin Gorda to enhance the tourism product there,” he said.
