Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro will make an official visit to Guyana this weekend.

Maduro will be making his first visit to Guyana since his election victory in April.

Since taking office, Maduro has visited Caribbean countries including Haiti and Cuba. His one-day visit will take place on Saturday, according to Guyana’s government.

The trip will include a bilateral meeting with Guyana President Donald Ramotar and talks between Guyanese and Venezuelan officials.

Guyana is a member of the PetroCaribe alliance, and has been receiving additional support from Venezuela in the supply of rice, including an agreement that will bring 140,000 tonnes of paddy and 70,000 tonnes of white rice to Guyana.

The country also recently inaugurated the Hugo Chavez Centre for Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation.
