The Organization of American States is continuing its programme to digitize civil registries across the Caribbean, with Dominica the latest launching point.

The project has begun scanning all birth, death, marriage and adoption registries in Dominica.

The OAS began the initiative after a request from six Organization of Eastern Caribbean States member states, and has completed the digitalization and data entry project in five of the six countries since launching in 2012.

The Caribbean Civil Registry and Identity System has hired data entry clerks to scan and input information, and will also be providing an IT specialist.

All of the hardware and software will be transferred to Dominica’s Ministry of Tourism and Legal Affairs following the completion of the project.
